Abstract:

Aim:The aim of the study is to identify the current situation of entrepreneurship, which has become increasingly important in recent years, among the university students of Ondokuz Mayis University and to exhibit the expectations of the students from their university in terms of education and guidance for more successful entrepreneurship. Material and Method:In this study 1140 (2.5%) of 50658 students studying at Ondokuz Mayis University in 2015 were taken as a sample. Participants signed informed voluntary consent form and were interviewed face to face by the researchers. Initially the demographic questionnaire developed by the researcher was applied and later the Kauffman FastTrac Entrepreneurship Character Survey, consisting of 17 questions, were administered to all students regardless of whether they wanted to become entrepreneurs. Finally, separate set of questions directed towards students who see themselves as entrepreneurs and who do not see themselves as entrepreneurs. Results: In this study on university students, 92% of the students found to be potential entrepreneurs when the "entrepreneurs" category and "might be entrepreneurs" category were taken together. It has been determined that the participants who do not see themselves as entrepreneurs but have high entrepreneurship levels can change their decisions about not being entrepreneurs by the education and guidance of the university about entrepreneurship. It has also been seen that the level of entrepreneurship of female students is higher than that of male students but the male students are more willing to set up their own businesses. In addition, it is found that the students of the Faculty of Sports Sciences have higher level of entrepreneurship compared to the students in all other departments at Ondokuz Mayis University. Conclusion: This study is helping to determine the potential entrepreneurs who are studying at Ondokuz Mayıs University and to put forward the students' expectations from the university for the entrepreneurship. It is expected that the university can make necessary arrangements in the light of this information and take an important step towards becoming entrepreneurial university.
