Abstract

The aim of this study was to evaluate retrospectively the successful catheterization incidence and complications of percutaneous central venous catheterization in our Anesthesiology Department. Over a 12 month period, central venous catheterization was performed 398 adult patients. The total successful catheterization rate was 97.4%. Arterial puncture was encountered in 18 patients (4.5%), and aritmia in 2 patients (0.5%). Blood was obtained during withdrawal of the needle in 64% of patients during internal jugular venous catheterization. Percutaneous central venous catheterization is an important issue both in follow-up and management period of the patients, but have some complications. Close observation of patients after catheterization is considerable for determining and management of complications.
