Abstract

Today, at the internet age, online resources and tutorials are particularly popular with foreign language learners. Language-learning websites typically promise being a "free", "effective, "independent" and "easy" way to learn languages. No doubt, online applications offer many advantages that traditional teaching methods do not offer. Communication and interaction with native speakers, the possibility of an encounter with the culture of the target language and therefore the acquisition of the "real" language including slang and idiomatic expressions etc. are only some of the many advantages online language-learning applications offer. For learners, this means being no longer tied to one place and being able to act autonomously by choosing whether to learn independently or in groups, online or offline, participate in online tutorials offered by native speakers or teachers or to learn independently by using auto-correction systems. But are we aware of the importance of using digital resources in the process of learning/ teaching foreign languages? And do we know which kinds of digital resources exist - and how we can use them both in class and in our everyday lives? In this work, the advantages of using digital resources in the process of learning/ teaching foreign languages will be discussed and three examples of use will be analysed.
