The title compound, C16H18N2O, was produced when 4-propylbenzenediazonium chloride, prepared from a 4-propylaniline and NaNO2-HCl mixture, was treated with 2-methylphenol in an approximately 1: 1 molar ratio. The molecules of the title compound are stabilized by inversion-related O-H center dot center dot center dot N and C-H center dot center dot center dot O intermolecular hydrogen bonds. The O-H center dot center dot center dot N and C-H center dot center dot center dot O hydrogen bonds generate two edge- fused R-2(2)(6) ring motifs. The dihedral angle between the aromatic rings is 15.28 (10)degrees. The N atoms are disordered approximately equally over two positions.
