Özet
This chapter explores how virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) technologies transform language education through immersive, learner- centered experiences. Using a mixed- methods approach, bibliometric analyses of 634 publications (385 on VR, 249 on AR) and grounded theory, it finds that these technologies boost motivation, engagement, and contextual learning, though most studies prioritize technical development over pedagogical depth. VR simulates real- world and cultural scenarios, improving oral proficiency, vocabulary retention, and reducing anxiety. AR overlays digital content onto physical settings, enhancing interactivity and personalized feedback. However, challenges like hardware costs, teacher training, and scarce longitudinal data hinder adoption. Smaller research clusters (e.g., VR in healthcare language training or AR for special needs) highlight adaptability across contexts. Key next steps include integrating language acquisition theories, enhancing educator support, and pursuing large- scale comparative studies.
