Abstract

We conducted monthly surveys of the phytoplankton of Karabogaz Lake in Turkey and found a total of 68 taxa occuring at different times throughout the year. They included Bacillariophyta (19 taxa), Chlorophyta (17), Cryptophyta (1), Euglenophyta (12), Dinophyta (3) and Cyanobacteria (19). Even Though considerable numbers of cyanoprokaryotes were observed, the diversity of the phytoplankton and nutrient analyses would indicate that Karabogaz Lake is currently in a mesotrophic state of development.
