Abstract

In the present study, neuroprotective effect of the aquoeus extract of Centranthus longiflorus subsp. Iongiflorus in glutamate induced toxicity in rat pups cerebellar granular cell culture was investigated. The extract at doses of 50 μg.ml-1, 100 μ.g.ml-1 250 μg.ml-1, 500 μg.ml-1 and 1000 μg.ml-1 was applied to culture flasks. At all doses the extract significantly blocked glutamate - induced neurotoxicity, with the most effective dose being 500 μg.ml-1. As a result, Centranthus longiflorus subsp. longiflorus protected the neurons against glutamate toxicity.
