7th International Congress on Hazelnut, Viterbo, Italy, 31 October 2009, vol.845, pp.61-66
This study was carried out to determine some nut and kernel characteristics of clones of 'Tombul' hazelnut cultivars grown in villages of Bulancak in the province of Giresun in the years 2005-2006. The clones had nut weights between 1.76-2.40 g, kernel weights between 0.95-1.16 g, shell thickness between 0.67-1.20 mm, nut number per cluster between 3.08-4.15 number/cluster, nut size between 16.34-18.57 mm, kernel size between 12.86-13.62 mm and kernel cavity between 1.54-2.69 mm. The study found that nut number per cluster increased as nut size and shell thickness decreased but kernel percentage increased. Concerning the decrease of nut number per cluster, nut size and shell thickness increased but kernel percentage decreased.
