Self-incompatibility and incompatibility groups are common in fruit species belonging to the Rosaceae family and especially in sweet cherries. There are few self-compatible sweet cherry cultivars in the world. Gametophytic self-incompatibility in sweet cherries is determined by the S-alleles. In recent years, many scientific studies have been carried out on this subject in the world, and the S-alleles associated with self-incompatibility in standard sweet cherry cultivars have been identified.
