Abstract.
This article analyzes the key aspects of Turkish-Soviet relations in the context of global political transformations and historical challenges. Special attention is given to the diplomatic, economic, and political ties between the two states, from the early stage of the Cold War to the peak of the confrontation between the Eastern and Western blocs. The research is based on archival materials from the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, publications from leading Turkish newspapers Cumhuriyet and Milliyet, academic studies, and contemporary analytical data. This inter disciplinary approach allows for a comprehensive assessment of the evolution of bilateral interaction, its transformation following the death of Joseph Stalin, and the partial renewal of the Soviet leadership's approach to relations with Turkey. The study also highlights the influence of geopolitical factors on the nature of Turkish-Soviet cooperation. In this context, it examines periods of rapprochement and crises, regional conflicts, trade and economic agreements, and dip lomatic initiatives that played a decisive role in shaping bilateral relations. Emphasis is placed on the fact that economic cooperation became an essential tool of "soft power" in shaping Turkey's foreign policy course. The negative stance of the United States on the Cyprus issue significantly influenced the development of Turkish-Soviet relations, compelling Ankara to reassess its foreign policy priorities in the 1960s and intensify its contacts with Moscow. Furthermore, the study explores the process of concluding key economic agreements between Turkey and the USSR, which facilitated the implementation of major industrial projects. It analyzes the role of bilateral cooperation in strengthening Turkey's economic independence and its adaptation to a changing international environment. Despite ideological differences and geopolitical challenges, Turkey and the USSR managed to establish and maintain a productive partnership. The agree ments concluded, economic projects undertaken, and diplomatic efforts made contributed to the strengthening of bilat eral cooperation, the adaptation of foreign policy strategies, and the formation of a sustainable model of interaction in conditions of global instability.
