Abstract

Variation in Essential oil compositions of wild fennel samples from Tokat, Turkey (Foeniculum vulgare Mill.) were studied in the research. Essential oil compositions of 37 fennel full maturated fruit samples from different localities were investigated by GC and GC[sbnd]MS. As results of the analyses, 17 components were identified, and estragole, a phenylpropanoid and isomers of trans-anethole, was major components in all samples following by fenchone. Although they have the same main component in all samples, Quantitative differences of main components caused chemical diversity as a result of cluster analysis. Two chemtypes, estragole with two sub-group and estragole/fenchone, were characterized in the research. Samples having high contents of major components with estragole and fenchone were selected for future studies.
