Abstract

Turkey is the country of origin of many fruit species such as cherry, apple, pear, plum, chestnut, walnut and hazelnut. These species are native to some parts of Turkey. Turkey is one of the most important countries in the world in terms of fruit production. It is one of the world's leading countries in the production of stone fruits such as apricot, cherry (sour and sweet), peach, nectarine and plum. For example, Turkey is the first country in the world for apricot and sweet cherry production with 780,000 and 494,325 t, respectively. Turkey is also a leading country in the world for the export of cherries and apricots. In this review the production, exportation, diversity and growing of stone fruits in Turkey will be discussed.
