Nursing homes in Turkey are one of the places where the seniors try to live their life peacefully as getting older. A healthy life is not only the elimination of physical needs at the maximum level but also the ability to maintain spiritual, social and other beings at the highest level. Many factors such as social and cultural habits, economic conditions, nutrition are influential in keeping a healthy life. This study reports on the students’ design experiences and abilities who graduated from Ondokuz Mayıs University, Faculty of Architecture, Department of Interior Architecture to solve the types of problems about the subject mentioned above. In the scope of the study, the diplomat project’s topic was deemed suitable as Elderly Life Center which takes into account all of the factors for seniors in different needs. The study area was "Ilkadim Derebahce Social Facilities Building" which is currently being used as a social facility and located in Ilkadım, Samsun Province in Turkey. In doing so, 18 interior architect candidates should design a living space in which they could reveal their own design identities. Within the specific requirement list, they were going to be able to have projects; (1) to present significant design approaches and space organizational decisions; (2) to structure the most appropriate use of the building taking into account the needs of the elderly; (3) to programme a flexible program to meet changing needs; (4) to correlate environmental involvement, spatial distribution, open-closed, semi-open spaces with each other; (5) to adopt an original design approach in the context of accessibility, etc. At the end of the semester, one of the significant outcomes of the study showed that the design understanding in areas where seniors will be able to live healthier seems to change from nursing home to the life center.
