Abstract

Roof fires pose significant risks to occupants in terms of both life and property safety. To reduce these risks and provide the expected fire safety performance of the roof assemblies, various active and passive safety precautions should be taken during the architectural design and construction phase. This paper focuses on roof fire dynamics and aims to analyze the reviews and legal requirements for the development of passive fire safety precautions for roof assemblies. Additionally, research has been carried out on roof assembly and covering materials and in the creation of fire safety precautions for roofs. Fire regulation in Türkiye, the United States, the United Kingdom, Singapore, and Canada were analyzed and legal requirements in roof fire safety precautions were analyzed. In determining roof fire safety precautions, comparative analyses were carried out on elements of the regulation such as roof assembly materials, roof covering materials, internal and external fire exposure, roof facade interactions. In conclusion, evaluations are presented to reduce roof fire risks in the future and to ensure the safety of the life and property of occupants. As a result of the comparative analysis, it is suggested to improve the requirements in the fire regulation of the countries.
