The crystal structure of the title compound, C15H10F3NO3, is stabilized by intramolecular N - (HF)-F-... and C - (HO)-O-..., and intermolecular N - (HO)-O-... hydrogen bonds and by weak C H-...pi interactions. The N - (HO)-O-... hydrogen bonds generate C(6) chains. The phthalide section of the molecule is planar, with a dihedral angle of 50.61 (8)degrees between the phthalide group and the benzene ring.
