Uluslararası Öğrencilerin Türkiye’yi Tercih Etme Nedenleri ve Kariyer Planları Üzerine Bir Çalışma

Özet

Bu çalışmanın amacı, uluslararası öğrencilerin Türkiye’yi tercih etme nedenlerini ve kariyer tercihlerini incelemek; uluslararası öğrenci hareketliliğini güncel bilgilerle betimleyerek uluslararasılaşma stratejisi çerçevesinde politikalar üreten üniversitelere konuyla ilgili katkı sunmaktır. Yükseköğretimin uluslararasılaşması ile birlikte uluslararası öğrenciler dünya genelinde yükseköğretim kurumlarının hedef kitlesi haline gelmiştir. Uluslararası öğrenciler, ev sahibi ülkelerin ve vatandaşı olduğu ülkelerin ekonomik, sosyo-kültürel ve siyasi gelişmelerine katkı sunan aktörler olarak karşımıza çıkmaktadır. Bu bağlamda yükseköğretimin uluslararasılaşması ile birlikte uluslararası öğrencilerin ülkeleri tercih etme kriterleri ve kariyer tercihleri önem arz etmektedir. Çalışma betimsel araştırma türünde olup çalışmanın örneklemini Ondokuz Mayıs Üniversitesinde 2020-2021 eğitim-öğretim yılında öğrenim görmüş olan 23 uluslararası öğrenci oluşturmaktadır. Çalışmada yarı yapılandırılmış mülakat tekniği ile uluslararası öğrencilerin fikirleri alınmış ve üç ana temada analiz edilmiştir. OMÜ’de öğrenim gören uluslararası öğrencilerin Türkiye’yi tercih etmesindeki en önemli motivasyonun tarihi, kültürel, dini, etnik bağlar ile coğrafi konum olduğu; kariyer planlarının ise Türkiye’de kalıp mesleklerini icra etmek şeklinde olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.
The aim of this study is to examine the reasons why international students choose Turkey and their career preferences; and to contribute to universities that develop policies within the framework of internationalization strategy by describing international student mobility with up-to-date information. With the internationalisation of higher education, international students have become the target group of higher education institutions worldwide. International students appear as actors who contribute to the economic, socio-cultural and political developments of their host countries and countries of citizenship. Therefore, in the context of internationalisation of higher education, international students' criteria for choosing countries and their career preferences are important. The study is a descriptive research type and the sample of the study consists of 23 international students who studied at Ondokuz Mayıs University in the 2020-2021 academic year. Inthestudy, the opinions of international students were obtained through semi-structured interviews and analysed in three main themes. The most important motivation for international students studying at OMU to choose Turkey was historical, cultural, religious, ethnicties and geographical location; their career plans were to stay in Turkey and practice their professions.
