Abstract

Hydrogen, which does not liberate carbon dioxide during combustion, is considered to be an important alternative energy resource of the future. There are many processes for hydrogen production. Biological hydrogen production from these processes could be an environmentally acceptable energy production method. The two main biological process utilized for biohydrogen production is thermo-chemical and biological process. Biohydrogen is considered as an important solution to a sustainable power supply and is nowadays being seen as the versatile fuel of the future, with potential to replace fossil fuels. One of the promising hydrogen production approaches is conversion from biomass which is abundant, clean and renewable a resource. This paper gives an overview of different technologies and different waste materials being used for biohydrogen production.
