Generally, malnutrition developes in many patients who have chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It is known that malnutrition causes weight losses. Obesity is also an important problem for these patients. Thus, the nutritional therapy is important for COPD. Adequate energy, vitamin, mineral and 1.5-2 g/kg/daily protein intakes are recommended for patients with COPD. In addition, a special diet which consist of low carbohydrate and high lipid can be beneficial to manage an acute episode of COPD.
