New metal-free and metallophthalocyanines (M=Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II), Zn(II) and Fe(II)) substituted with eugenol (4-allyl-2-methoxyphenol) from 1,2-dicyano-4-nitrobenzen are described. Cyclotetramerization of the substituted phthalonitrile leads to a product very soluble in common organic solvents. The characterization of the compounds was accomplished by elemental analysis, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, IR and UV-VIS spectral data.
