Abstract

A new nickel, zinc, cobalt, copper and metal-free phthalocyanine was synthesized by nucleophilic aromatic substitution reaction of (E)-3-(3-hydroxyphenyl)-1-phenylprop-2-en-1-one with 4-nitrophthalonitrile and cyclotetramerisation of (E)-4-(3-(3-oxo-3-phenylprop-1-enyl)phenoxy) phthalonitrile. The new compounds were characterized by a combination of IR, H-1 NMR, C-13 NMR, UV-Vis, elemental analysis and MS spectral data. The thermal stabilities of the phthalocyanine compounds were determined by thermogravimetric analysis.
