Crystals of the title compound, C15H13NO3, are stabilized by N-H center dot center dot center dot O intermolecular hydrogen bonds and two C-H center dot center dot center dot pi intermolecular interactions. The N-H center dot center dot center dot O hydrogen bonds generate an R-2(2)(12) ring motif and the phthalide part of the molecule is planar. The dihedral angle between the phthalide group and the benzene ring is 71.18 (5)degrees.
