Recently, it is noteworthy that the use of herbs in the treatment of diseases has increased and alternative medicine studies have become widespread in medicine. It is an endemic plant in our country and the number of plants used for traditional treatment is quite high. For this reason, academic institutions in the regions where endemic plants are found should focus on these type studies. The aim of this study to investigate the effectiveness of Armoracia rusticana (Horseradish), which grows abundantly in Kars Region (Turkey), against Gram negative and Gram positive various bacteria strains. In this study, standard strains of gram positive bacteria Bacillus cereus, Bacillus subtilis and Staphylococcus aureus, and gram negative bacteria Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Serratia marcescens, Yersinia enterocolitica were used. It is planned to examine the selected Armoracia rusticana (Horseradish) plant in three different parts by extracting direct section, pulp and extract. Thus, it is aimed to determine which way the root is used reveals more antibacterial effect. Thus, it was aimed to determine which part on the root exerts its antibacterial effect. Son zamanlarda hastalıkların tedavisinde bitkilerin yaygın olarak kullanımının artması ve tıp alanında da alternatif tıp çalışmalarının yaygınlaşması dikkat çekmektedir. Ülkemizde de özellikle endemik bitki niteliğinde olup, geleneksel tedavi amacıyla kullanılan bitkilerin sayısı oldukça fazladır. Bu sebeple, endemik bitkilerin bulunduğu yörelerdeki akademik kurumların bu tip çalışmalara ağırlık vermesi gerekmektedir. Bu çalışmada Kars Yöresinde bolca yetişen Acırga/bayır turpu (Armoracia rusticana/Horseradish)’nın gram negatif ve gram pozitif çeşitli bakterilere karşı etkinliğinin incelenmesi amaçlanmaktadır. Bu çalışmada gram pozitif bakterilerden Bacillus cereus, Bacillus subtilis ve Staphylococcus aureus, gram negatif bakterilerden Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Serratia marcescens, Yersinia enterocolitica standart suşları kullanılmıştır. Acırga/Bayır turpu (Armoracia rusticana/Horseradish) bitkisinin doğrudan kesiti, posası ve ekstraktı çıkarılarak üç farklı kısımda incelenmesi planlanmıştır. Böylece kökün hangi şekilde kullanılmasının daha fazla antibakteriyal etkiyi ortaya koyduğunu tespit etmek amaçlanmıştır. Agar kuyucuk difüzyon yöntemi kullanılarak yapılan bu çalışmada, gram pozitif bakterilerin tamamında ve beş tane gram negatif bakteriden sadece K. pneumoniae’ de antibakteriyal etki elde edilmiştir.
