Özet

Louse fl ies (Diptera: Hippoboscidae) are obligate blood-feeding ectoparasites that infest avian and mammalian hosts. The composition of the hippoboscid fl ies fauna, their host-parasite relationships, and distribution among birds and mammals in Türkiye have been poorly studied. The material of the present study reports hippoboscid fl y specimens collected from birds during bird ringing activities conducted at Ormanya Wildlife Park (Kocaeli, Türkiye) between April 2023 and December 2024. During the study, 3411 individual hosts representing 73 species from 11 avian orders were examined. Hippoboscid infestations were detected in 19 birds representing six species within the order Passeriformes and in one bird belonging to the order Strigiformes. Based on the stereomicroscopic examination, the louse fl ies were identifi ed as Ornithoica turdi (Latreille, 1812), Ornithomya avicularia (Linnaeus, 1758), and Pseudolynchia canariensis (Macquart, 1839). Among these, Ornithoica turdi is a fi rst record for the Hippoboscidae fauna of Türkiye. In addition, new host-parasite associations were detected for the other two species.
