Abstract

The aim of the research is to determine the students' success and misconceptions about the sun, earthand moon. The study group of the research, which was conducted by using the single screening model which isone of the general screening model types, consisted of 102 students studying in the fifth grade. The data wereobtained by Achievement Test consisting of 5 open-ended questions. The obtained data were grouped accordingto categories of “no understanding”, “specific misconception”, “partial understanding with a specificmisconception”, “partial understanding” and “sound understanding”. As a result of the research, it wasdetermined that the students do not have enough knowledge about the movements of the earth and the moon, theformation of day and night, the reason of the moon and the sun appearing in the same size from the world andthey have some misconceptions about these subjects.
