Dead Souls, given to Gogol by Pushkin, was initially received as a masterpiece in the world of fiction. The novel which is set in the slavery regime in Russia at the end of the 19th century has been staged by Adamov under the same name. This study sheds light on how two types of communication/meanings were conveyed in the adaptation of the work in question. Initially the concentration was on how much of the story and the plot and the style of expression were retained in the staging of the novel, or how much of it was molded with the art of the theater. In light of the formal features of a play and a novel the work in question was analyzed and the layers of meaning achieved within each and added was studied.
