Abstract

This research was caried out with the aim of comparing depression levels of the children with cancer and healty children as compareble investigation model and seeking correlation. The research was conducted on 7-14 age group children with cancer and healty children student at Sabanci primary school in the pediatric oncology Clinic of Atatürk Üniversty Yakutiye Research Hospital. In collection of data, guestion from prepaared by research and Depression Scale fort he children developed by M. Kovasc and adapted to the Turkish by Belma Öy were used .when the correlation between depression score averages and informative properties directed to the illness of the child with cancer was examined. In case of being avare of the diagnosis. It was determined that depression score reduced (P<0.05). there was no statistical significance between depreeion score averages and the duration of ilness, type of cancer, type of treatment, the station of sschool attendance and course of the treatment (P>0.05). whwn depression score averages of the children with occupe and healty children were compared, those of the children cancer were found higher than those of health children (P<0.001). In the light of hhe findings, it may be suggested that the nurses should be informed in making quidence according to the requirments of the children regularly in the adaption to the treatment for children with cancer and their families.
