Abstract

Bacter

a are m

croorgan

sms that can surv

ve

n var

ous hab

tats,

nclud

ng extreme env

ronments. These bacter

nclude psychroph

l

c and psychrotolerant bacter

a, wh

ch have adapted to low temperatures and can be used for var

ous purposes such as enzyme product

on, b

olog

cal control and removal of env

ronmental wastes. Unt

l now, no study has been conducted on the bacter

al b

od

vers

ty of the Kaçkar Mounta

ns, located

n the northeast of Turkey, where var

ous land and water ecosystems,

nclud

ng glac

al lakes, are located. In th

s study, water, sed

ment and so

l samples were collected from n

ne d

fferent po

nts

n the Kaçkar Mounta

ns w

th

n the borders of R

ze Prov

nce, and psychroph

l

c/psychrotolerant bacter

a were

solated from these samples. 7 d

fferent med

a were used for

solat

on, and the petr

 d

shes

noculated w

th the spread

ng plate method were

ncubated at 10°C for four weeks. The colon

es obta

ned at the end of the

ncubat

on were pur

f

ed by the streak plate method and 377

solates were obta

ned as pure cultures. The 16S rRNA gene of 46 representat

ve

solates, selected accord

ng to the

r morpholog

cal character

st

cs among the pur

f

ed

solates, was sequenced and analyzed. As a result of the analys

s, 46

solates were d

str

buted

nto 15 d

fferent genera. 18

solates were ass

gned as Pseudomonas, 7

solates were Bacllus, 4

solates were Janthnobacterum, 3

solates were Flavobacterum, 2

solates each were Pedobacter, Serrata

and Exguobacterum, and 1

solate each was a member of the genera Aeromonas, Lefsona,

Okbacterum, Streptomyces, Carnobacterum, Rhodococcus, Denococcus and Pantoea. It was determ

ned that an

solate represented a new spec

es w

th

n the Pedobacter genus as

t showed 98.61% s

m

lar

ty value

n terms of 16S rRNA gene sequence w

th the most closely related type stra

n. The

solates obta

ned

n the study were screened on sol

d med

a for extracellular amylase, l

pase, protease and ch

t

nase product

on, and 22

solates gave pos

t

ve results for l

pase and protease, 11

solates for amylase and 8

solates for ch

t

nase enzyme. The

solates were also screened for s

derophore product

on

n un

versal CAS med

um and 13

solates were found to g

ve pos

t

ve results. Th

s study revealed the bacter

al b

od

vers

ty

n the Kaçkar Mounta

ns and the b

otechnolog

cal potent

al of th

s d

vers

ty for the f

rst t

me. As a result,

t has been shown that the Kaçkar Mounta

ns are r

ch

n psychroph

l

c/psychrotolerant bacter

al b

od

vers

ty and that th

s d

vers

ty can benef

t from a b
