Ultrasonographic examination of the liver was performed with a 3.75 MHz transducer from the 6th to the 12th intercostal space in a cow. On the 12th intercostal space, an unechoic irregular shapped cyst with 11-14 cm in diameter was observed. Ultrasound guided percutaneus centesis was performed and 10 ml cyst fluid was aspirated. Analysis of the blood serum and the cyst fluid by the technic of SDS-PAGE and Western blotting test confirmed the hydatid disease. In cows, hydatid disease should be taken into consideration when an ultrasonographic examination of the liver is to be performed.
