Vocabulary of a language consists of words, idioms, proverbs, formulaic expression and terms. Vocabulary is not only concepts consisting of sounds, but also contains strong carriers for the cultural memory of the society; are important elements that reflect beliefs, values, social and philosophical foundations. Idioms and proverbs in the vocabulary of the Turkish language; They are the most important structures that enrich and strengthen the language, reflect the culture, beliefs and worldview of the society. These structures are the aphorisms found in the vocabulary since the Orkhon Inscriptions. Idioms and proverbs are words that are formulaic expression as a result of the emergence of a different meaning by going out of the real meaning of the words that come together. These formulaic expressions, which are used quite frequently in spoken and written language, enable to tell the other party what is meant to be said in certain situations with minimum effort. The subject of the study consists of idioms and proverbs containing the concept of "work". The dictionary meaning of the concept of work is “working, an activity done with effort, getting a result, any kind of work that provides daily life”. However, in the idioms and proverbs that emerged as a result of the research, it has been seen that the word is used in many other meanings besides its first meaning. In the scanning study, Turkish Dictionary (TDK) and Ömer Asım Aksoy's Dictionary of Idioms and Proverbs were used. 107 idioms and 35 proverbs related to the concept of work have been identified in dictionaries. These identified words are discussed together with their meanings. As a result of the researches, it has been seen that there is no study on the concept of work in the studies of idioms and proverbs. With this study, it is aimed to contribute to the field by trying to fill the gap in the field.
Bir dilin söz varlığını, sözcükler, deyimler, atasözleri, kalıplaşmaya uğramış sözler ve terimler oluşturmaktadır. Söz varlığı yalnızca seslerden oluşan kavramlar değil, aynı zamanda toplumun kültürel belleği için güçlü taşıyıcıları içinde barındıran; inançları, değerleri, sosyal ve felsefi temelleri yansıtan önemli unsurlardır. Türk dilinin söz varlığı içinde yer alan deyimler ve atasözleri; dili zenginleştiren, güçlü kılan, toplumun kültürünü, inançlarını, dünya görüşünü yansıtan en önemli yapılardır. Bu yapılar Orhun Yazıtlarından itibaren söz varlığında bulunan özlü sözlerdir. Deyimler ve atasözleri, yan yana gelen kelimelerin gerçek anlamı dışına çıkarak farklı bir anlamın ortaya çıkması sonucu kalıplaşmaya uğrayan sözlerdir. Konuşma ve yazı dilinde oldukça sık kullanılan bu kalıp sözler, belli durumlar karşısında söylenmek isteneni, karşı tarafa en az çaba ile anlatmayı sağlamaktadır. Çalışmanın konusunu “iş” kavramını içeren deyim ve atasözleri oluşturmaktadır. İş kavramının sözlük anlamı “çalışmak, güç harcayarak yapılan etkinlik, bir sonuç elde etmek, günlük yaşayışı sağlayıcı her türlü çalışma” olarak geçmektedir. Ancak yapılan araştırma sonucunda ortaya çıkan deyimler ve atasözlerinde kelimenin ilk anlamı dışında, başka birçok anlamda da kullanıldığı görülmüştür. Tarama çalışmasında kaynak olarak Türkçe Sözlük (TDK) ile Ömer Asım Aksoy’un Deyimler ve Atasözleri Sözlüğü kullanılmıştır. Sözlüklerde iş kavramı ile ilgili 107 deyim ve 35 atasözü tespit edilmiştir. Tespit edilen bu sözler anlamları ile birlikte ele alınmıştır. Yapılan araştırmalar sonucunda deyim ve atasözü çalışmalarında iş kavramı üzerine bir çalışma olmadığı görülmüştür. Bu çalışma ile alandaki boşluk giderilmeye çalışılıp alana katkı sağlamak amaçlanmıştır.
