Özet

Underwater Visible Light Communication (UVLC), although it has the potential to overcome the data rate limitations of acoustic and RF systems, suffers from absorption and scattering losses due to water turbidity. In this study, channel effects are modeled using the Beer–Lambert law, and Clear Ocean, Coastal Ocean, and Harbor Water scenarios are investigated. Under OOK modulation, the BER performance of Hamming, BCH, RS, convolutional, and LDPC codes is compared. The results show that coding techniques exhibit distinct behaviors depending on channel severity. In harbor water, due to LLR degradation, LDPC reaches a BER of 10-4 only at ~34 dB, while convolutional coding achieves error-free transmission at ~30 dB. In contrast, in clear and coastal waters, LDPC demonstrates superior performance with a pronounced waterfall effect at 8.5 dB and 10.7 dB. These findings highlight the critical importance of channel-adaptive coding selection in UVLC systems.
