The transformation of energy systems, necessary to dramatically reduce emissions into the atmosphere, is carried out on the basis of the massive use of renewable energy sources, the generating capacity of which is subject to strong fluctuations. In these circumstances, a difficult problem arises of ensuring: a balance between energy production and consumption, stability, sustainability, efficiency and reliability of energy supply. This leads to the necessity of a significant change in the structure and management of the power system. To draw up plans for the development of power systems, it is necessary to take into account numerous factors affecting the development of power systems, to analyze the suitability of the power system for decades to come. This article is devoted to the consideration of scenarios for the development of the energy systems of the Baltic countries. Significant capacities of renewable energy sources are expected to be commissioned and the issue of the region's ability to self-sufficiency, export/import of energy and to reduce emissions into the atmosphere is being investigated.
