Özet

Dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) offer an effective and adaptable means of harnessing abundant clean energy resources. DSSCs possess some level of transparency and are more cost-effective as compared to standard solar cells. Consequently, they hold the potential as a future electricity source. However, several aspects require attention before they can be deemed a commercially viable product. This chapter will outline the architecture, fundamental principles, and operational mechanisms of DSSCs. Additionally, recent advancements in DSSC technology will be examined, encompassing aspects such as the utilization of titanium dioxide as the primary photoanode material alongside exploration into alternative metal oxide frameworks. Furthermore, various types of dyes will be discussed, including ruthenium, magnesium, titanium, porphyrazine, nickel, copper, cobalt, porphyrins, and phthalocyanines. Moreover, various types of electrolytes, comprising quasi-solid, liquid, and solid-state conductors, will be explored, along with an analysis of diverse materials employed in counter electrodes (CEs), ranging from carbon and polymers to metals. The concluding section will address the challenges and limiting factors encountered in DSSCs, including issues related to electrolyte and counter-electrode degradation, humidity effect, as well as concerns regarding sealants and encapsulation methods.
