Abstract

Given the geostrategically important location of Caucasia, many states aimed to establish their domination in the region. In fact, Russia's expansion in the region threatened the interests of England in the East in the 19th century and caused great distress. Therefore, England aimed to put a barrier against the progress of Russia by collaborating with the Circassians and sending agents to the region. One such agent was the journalist John Longworth. Referring to the work of Longworth, this study aims to evaluate the reasons behind the interest of the English toward the Circassians and the expectations of the Circassians from England as a follower.
