Ali Kaan ASKIN was born in Ordu, Turkey. I graduated as the top performing student in my term from the Department of Plant Protection at the Faculty of Agriculture, Ondokuz Mayıs University in 2019 (My G.P.A is 3.96 out of 4.). That same year, I began my master's degree and completed my thesis in 2022, focusing on the use of botanical preparations for controlling major pests in ornamental plants.
Since 2020, I have been working as a research assistant in the Entomology division of the Plant Protection Department at Ondokuz Mayıs University. Before transitioning into academia, I worked as an intern at Syngenta for two years. In 2022, I began my doctoral studies in entomology.
In my academic studies, I have conducted research on the use of plant-based essential oils and extracts against stored product pests and aphids. Alongside my doctoral education, my areas of interest include hazelnut pests and their control, as well as studies on the use of pheromones and biological control methods in pest management. My PhD thesis investigates the intra- and interspecies interactions of the invasive pest Halyomorpha halys through its scent glands and various plant extracts, as well as the optimal conditions for releasing its egg parasitoid in classical biological control.
Throughout my academic career, I have developed expertise in statistical analysis and data interpretation. I am proficient in SPSS (advanced level), skilled in R (intermediate level), and have a basic knowledge of PoloPlus and Jamovi. I continue to refine these skills through specialized courses and training. Additionally, I am expanding my expertise in molecular techniques related to entomology, pest control, and insect population ecology by staying up to date with the latest developments in the field.
